Top 3 Takeaways – The Art of Collaboration

The Art of Collaboration
Presented by Beth Rosenthal (Collaboration and Change, LLC) and Gillian Kaye (Kaye Strategies Consulting and Coaching)
November 10, 2016
Presented in collaboration with The Foundation Center New York

This workshop aimed to help participants to create more effective collaborations. It introduced frameworks for understanding collaboration, insights into collaboration success, tips about navigating typical barriers, and a taste of how it feels to get to common ground and identify shared goals.

Top 3 Takeaways:

1. Collaboration is worth the effort! Sharing different perspectives can lead to more creativity, better problem solving and more resources. However, there is a continuum of collaboration – each step moving toward greater connection and alignment. Sometimes networking or cooperating is enough. Collaborating requires greater engagement and commitment.

2. Collaboration is purposeful. Commitment to goals is a major factor in collaboration success. Clarity on the purpose of the collaboration, and what success will look like helps to bring people together, focus strategies, and keep everyone on a shared path.

3. Collaboration is about self-interest as well as mutual interest. It helps to be candid about not just what you can bring to the collaboration, but also what you hope to gain from working together. You can make it win/win!
