Nonprofits and corporations need each other. Yet corporations continue to provide a relatively small proportion of the support that nonprofits receive. In order to more effectively compete for corporate support, it’s essential for nonprofits to understand and leverage the value they provide back to the companies they partner with.
This workshop was designed to explore how and why companies invest in corporate citizenship programs. Participants discovered how their organizations can proactively help a corporate partner craft the stories that bolster its corporate brand and helps that partner compete for the hearts and minds of its key stakeholders.
The workshop focused on 3 key points:
1) Companies give because it is good for business. Giving back helps companies compete as they look to attract and retain customers, clients and investors. Visible corporate citizenship helps companies build relationships in the communities where they do business. In recent years, companies have begun figuring out how to quantify the impact that these programs have on the bottom line. This makes it easier for them to invest in partnerships with nonprofits in the communities where their employees work and their customers live.
2) Corporate branding is how companies reveal their value and values. Companies work hard to craft the image and identity that their brand portrays. It’s much more than just a logo. It’s an emotional and often intangible description of what that company stands for.
3) Nonprofit partnerships are key to the success of corporate citizenship programs. Nonprofits that know how to help craft and tell the stories that build and foster corporate brands are in a position to garner the most support from those corporate partners.
